The journey to circularity: official opening of new graft line Van Zutven Group and AquaMinerals

During this celebratory event on September 12, we took our guests on a time travel along the impressive developments around circular calcite. We showed how this sustainable material – derived from the softening reactors of drinking water companies – is increasingly finding applications in sectors such as food, animal feed, cosmetics and high-end industrial applications. There was also plenty of opportunity to reflect on our shared successes with supply chain partners and stakeholders.

What began in 2010 as an exploration of calcite as an alternative graft material in water softening, has grown into the realization of a full-scale plant, where sand-free calcite granules are processed into customized raw materials for a variety of applications. The plant was recently expanded to include a production line that produces graft material for drinking water companies, making the chain fully circular. Thanks to the commitment and cooperation of many, we have achieved the scale we envisioned. The number of applications for calcite continues to grow, and what we have achieved so far shows not only the progress but also the enormous potential for the future.

During the event, the new name for the calcite line was proudly introduced: Qualitycal. This name perfectly reflects what the product stands for: quality – in every link of our circular chain.

Together we continue to build a sustainable future!

Board of BW visits Van Zutven Group

May 7, the College of Mayor and Aldermen visited the Van Zutven processing plant in Veghel.

Yesterday the college of mayor and aldermen together with the town clerk of the municipality of Meierijstad held their college meeting at Van Zutven Group in Veghel. Unique in the Netherlands to meet in this way and also unique to be able to serve the stage in front of such an audience.

Marc die Bie, senior account manager for businesses at the Municipality of Meierijstad: ”During lunch, Frans van Zutven and Marco van Boheemen took us through their growth ambitions and innovative entrepreneurship. Son Niels van Zutven has a special role within the family business. He is the inventor in optimizing, automating and digitizing their production lines by building machines that are not for sale anywhere in the world. This makes Van Zutven unique in the world. As a result, they are the only ones able to bring certain residual streams originating from Food and Feed back into production as upgraded raw materials.

Van Zutven is also very strongly committed to local collaboration, circularity and sustainability as mortar in the wall of business. Because it doesn’t only serve the people, the environment and society, but also its wallet. Hence Corporate Social Responsibility is in the genes of the van Zutven family and their employees.

Hence we are proud of this beautiful family business and that this gem is located in Meierijstad. Frans, Niels and Marco. Thank you for your hospitality and enthusiastic story.

Van Zutven is live with new WMS system from Boltrics

Jan. 29, Van Zutven went live with Boltrics’ new WMS system.

With increasing complexity in logistics flows and processing, it was time for Van Zutven to replace its existing custom software for a new system.

Here we have chosen a standardization of item numbers and productions according to a VAL order system.

Mathieu van Grinsven and Anja Rutten supervised the entire process from Van Zutven.

“Going live has gone smoothly for now. Of course you still encounter some bumps, but I am very satisfied with how things are going. We also owe this in particular to the flexible thinking of Boltrics’ consultant. I gave him quite a hard time at times!” Mathieu says with a laugh.

Interview by Dinnissen Process Technology

“Van Zutven as a pivot between food and feed!”

Van Zutven Feed Processing was founded in the 1980s by Frans van Zutven. Today he and son Niels van Zutven are at the helm. During this period Van Zutven has experienced enormous growth in feed and food processing and the Veghel-based company is allowed to process residual products from the world’s largest dairy producers. Crucial to this was its unique positioning as the pivot between food and feed.

Reden voor Dinnissen Process Technology om Van Zutven als klant te interviewen.

Read in this interview with Frans and Niels van Zutven:

  • How Van Zutven won the trust of the world’s largest food companies
  • How dairy industry waste streams are processed into high-value feed
  • How the partnership with Dinnissen came about
  • How mutual communication leads to the best solution and relationship
  • Why Van Zutven -despite some challenges- is very satisfied with Dinnissen

NON GMO Soy flower

Van Zutven can grind soy to an ultra fine product, used in milkreplacers for calves and piglets.

A very fine granulometry and a high consistency; these are the most important product properties of Van Zutven’s NON-GMO Hipro soy flour.

Soy protein has a high biological value. This means that the ratio of amino acids in the protein is favorable for the growth of calves and piglets. Amino acids are the building blocks for animal protein. For this reason, soy flour can be an interesting product to supplement milk powders for calves and piglets.

Solubility

Soybean meal is naturally poorly soluble. And that’s where Van Zutven’s expertise comes in; ultra-fine grinding of the soya meal into flour. Customers wishes can vary from 200 µm to smaller than even 50 µm. This particle size, or granulometry, is important for the degree of digestibility and absorbability in the intestine of young animals. During the grinding process, the product is dried in a few more percent, which increases the protein content per tonne of product. Also handling properties increas with an increased dry matter percentage of the product.

Durability

Currently, a discussion is taking place about the advantages and disadvantages of using soy products in Dutch feed & food. Van Zutven only purchases soy products from licensed companies in the Netherlands. In addition, Van Zutven processes these products without using natural gas and with electricity from our own solar panels. The residual heat released is reused in our climate control system.
